QR Code Beginning Sounds (Photography Themed)

After moving around for a couple of years, I am officially back in kindergarten! I cannot be more excited!! The fact that our district gave every kindergarten class iPads adds to my excitement. I have been spending a lot of time on Pinterest looking for different ways I can use the iPads. One simple way is QR codes so I decided to make a QR code activity that my kiddos can use to practice letters and beginning sounds.

Here are some pictures of my daughter trying it out:

First, students will scan the QR code.

Next, they will look at the image and decide what the beginning sound is.

Then, students will clip the letter that begins with that sound. Another option would be to use dry erase markers and circle the letter, but you get the gist.

Check out the activity HERE.

Enjoy your week!

QR Code Alphabet Activity

I made my first QR code activity!!! Is it nerdy that I am extremely excited about this? I will be doing it more often now that I have figured out how.

The Activity comes with cards with images beginning with letters A-Z. Students will look at the images and decide what letter the items begin with. Then they use a tablet or phone to scan the QR code using a "QR Reader" to check their answer. The QR codes link to the letter the images start with.

See the full activity HERE.

Hope you enjoyed your weekend!

Alphabet Pack!

Just felt a rush of anxiety when I saw someone posting school supplies on Facebook! Eeek!! I just finished summer school a week ago. We still have a month before we go back, but I know it is going to fly by. It has been a REALLY eventful summer so far. I have:
  • hung out with some really cool kids at summer school
  • had an awesome reunion with my AMAZING friends from college - Wreck 'em Tech!
  • had fun visiting my family!
  • made a new wreath for my door
  • completed my first knitting project!!!
  • visited North Carolina =)
  • saw the Kindred Spirit mailbox and left my mark
  • had an awesome time at the beach
  • saw a lighthouse in person
  • took a boat tour
  • saw Nicholas Sparks' backyard - WOW!
  • ate at the restaurant from Safe Haven and sat at the EXACT table where the actors sat
  • saw a lot of houses and buildings from films (Nicholas Sparks movies, Under the Dome, etc)
  • sat next to a bass player from a band opening for Sheryl Crow on a plane
A glimpse of NC:

The past few weeks I have slowly been working on an Alphabet Pack and it is now finished. Get excited! Here are some pages from the pack:

Valentine Literacy & Math Pack

We only have two more days left of the break get to see our kiddos again really soon! =)

I'm ready to get back into the swing of things. The break wasn't much of a break though. It consisted of:
1. stomach virus
2. sinus infection
3. surgery

I finally feel just about recovered and the break is gone. Oh well, at least I got to spend a few days with my family! Oh and Monday is a work day so hopefully I can be productive!

AND while spending the majority of the time in my nice comfy bed, I was able to knock out a Valentine pack!! WOO HOO!! I know, I know...a little early, but I've been running late on all of the packs I have been making so I thought I would try to start earlier from now on. Hopefully this will continue! It is easier to do them when you aren't working.

Anyway, I'm pretty excited about it. Here are some of the things in the pack:

Boo-ginning Sounds

I wanted to add some new centers that focus on beginning sounds. I decided to create one that is Halloween themed. Here are a couple of pages from it:

It may be hard to see on here, but in each orange circle there is an image. Students will match it to the letter that makes the beginning sound.

Environmental Print Book

I had this on my old blog and thought I would move it/add it to this blog.

Last year I made an environmental print book for my class. It is full of print students see everyday. Although most of them will not be reading, they will be able to "read" a lot of the things in this book!

Examples pages:

Hopefully the pictures will give you an idea of what it will look like. There is one page per letter. I tried to find as many things as I could think of that kids would know. A couple of the letters were a stretch  - I'm sure you will figure out which ones when you get to them. All in all, I think the students will enjoy it!

Apple Pack

Apple Theme - yes please!

I love this time of the year. I plan to spend 2-3 weeks on this theme because there is a ton of fun things to do with apples! I will try to post about some of the activities we do. Hopefully I'll remember to take pictures!

I created an apple pack. I tried to include cut and paste activities because we are still doing beginning of the year testing and cut and paste activities seem to take students a little longer to complete. Maybe I can squeeze a little testing in while they do these activities. Here is an image of some of the pages (I forgot to include the one on the right so I added it, too):

Here is what the pack includes:

1. Lowercase and Uppercase Letter Sort (Cut and Paste, 1 page)
2. Letter and Number Sort (Cut and Paste, 1 page)
3. Uppercase and Lowercase Letter Match (Cut and Paste, 3 pages)
4. Number to Dots Match (Cut and Paste, 1 page)
5. Uppercase and Lowercase Letter Match (Draw Line to Match, 5 pages)
6. Tracing Practice (1 page)
7. Cutting Practice (1 page)
