Authors Group Information Pack!

My observation was Thursday so I was able to start working on the Authors Group Information Pack! I finished it up last night.

I included two activities to use as powerpoints when introducing the concept. Here is a page from one:

The themes included for the actual grouping information activities are:

Here is an example of how it turns out (some of you may have seen this before):

Authors Group Info - Seeds

We have been learning about seeds in science so our last authors group information activity was all about seeds.

Before doing the activity we looked at the table of contents in the book Seeds:

Students predicted what type of information would be in each section.

Then we grouped information the way we thought the author would.

Here is how we grouped it:

After grouping the information, we read through the book to see if the author grouped the information like we did.

Authors Group Information - Cowboy Style - YEE HAW!

We did another activity on authors group information today. Since we have been doing a Texas/cowboys theme we grouped information into the following three categories: What Cowboys Wear, What Cowboys Do, What Cowboys Use

Here is how it turned out:

My kids have been doing really well with this concept!

I made an Authors Group Information Pack. It doesn't include the cowboy version because I don't have rights to use some of the clip art for TPT products, but it does include other great themed activities!

Authors Group Information Activity

One of our TEKS this week was to discuss the ways authors group information. We have been discussing this throughout the year.

To help with the concept, I printed out pictures of and sentences about three of the Texas symbols we are covering this week (armadillo, bluebonnet, Texas flag).

After showing a picture or reading a sentence, I called students up to put the information on the chart they thought it belonged to. Students did a great job grouping the information just like authors!

Here is what it looked like:
