Armadillo Writing/Armadilly Chili Graphing

Today we focused on the Texas state small mammal: armadillos.

In reading, we read the nonfiction book Animals Underground Armadillos:

Afterwards, we made a tree map on what armadillos have, can do, and need.

Then students retold facts about armadillos through writing. Here are a few of them:

Armadillos have pups. Armadillos have babies.

Armadillos have ?. They can roll into a ball!

Armadillos can live in a burrow.

Armadillos can roll into a ball.

Armadillos have armor.

For math, we read Armadilly Chili:

After reading, we tasted chili and then graphed if students liked it. All but three students loved it. I got many compliments on it - evidently I am the best chili maker ever! Little do they know, I'm just a good can opener! ;)

Texas Flag - Tear Art and Graph

We focused on the Texas flag today and had fun doing tear art!!! Love kinder!

Afterwards we used the flags to make a graph showing which students have a Texas flag at home. Here is how it turned out:

Tomorrow we are reading Armadilly Chili, eating chili (the Texas state dish), and graphing if students like it - can't wait!  

Let's Compare! - Graphing Pack

I put together a graphing pack! Students will compare their names with different holiday and themed related words. It includes 34 different graphs (both in black and white & color). This will be a simple way to integrate graphing throughout the year!

We did the snowman version yesterday and my kids had a lot of fun with it!

Fruit Loop Graphing

We are working on graphs this week. Today we graphed Fruit Loops!!!

Students graphed them by color. Then they moved one at a time to put an "x" where the Fruit Loops were. This way we still had our graph after the Fruit Loops were gone!

Instead of drawing an "x", construction paper squares can also be used.

Once the graphs were completed, students wrote the total of each color and we talked about which colors had the greatest and the least.

100th Day Pack

The 100th day is getting closer!!! When is yours? Mine is February 5th.

Can't wait to see what my kids look like when they are 100! I only had a few kids dress up last year. I am hoping more will this year. The kids who dressed up were really cute.

Last year some of my students did not recognize me. They thought they had a really old sub - sooo funny! They finally realized it was me. This is what I looked like:

Note to self: When your old, get a walker with WHEELS! They make life a lot more fun! ;)
