Word Problems

We have been working on addition and subtraction word problems. My students are doing well with them!

After doing a few problems together I gave each table a different problem. Some were addition and some were subtraction. Students drew a picture in their math journals to help them solve the problem. Most of my kids were able to do this on their own.

We are going to switch problems throughout the week. I love when I can do something simple like this and use it all week!

Valentine Literacy & Math Pack

We only have two more days left of the break get to see our kiddos again really soon! =)

I'm ready to get back into the swing of things. The break wasn't much of a break though. It consisted of:
1. stomach virus
2. sinus infection
3. surgery

I finally feel just about recovered and the break is gone. Oh well, at least I got to spend a few days with my family! Oh and Monday is a work day so hopefully I can be productive!

AND while spending the majority of the time in my nice comfy bed, I was able to knock out a Valentine pack!! WOO HOO!! I know, I know...a little early, but I've been running late on all of the packs I have been making so I thought I would try to start earlier from now on. Hopefully this will continue! It is easier to do them when you aren't working.

Anyway, I'm pretty excited about it. Here are some of the things in the pack:

Christmas Literacy & Math Pack!

I can't believe it is already December - I love this time of year! If I could have a Christmas tree up year round, I would. My Christmas pack is now finished - woo hoo! Here are some things in it:

Below are the addition cards. There is also a recording sheet that will hold students accountable.

My kids LOVE the write the room center! It keeps them engaged and moving! If you teach kinder, you know it is a good thing when kids can move and get their wiggles out.

I love the "Stuff the Stockings" addition center! The kids read the problem and then stuff the stockings with the gifts to help them find the sum.

The pack includes:
  • Ten holiday addition cards
  • Holiday addition recording sheet
  • Ho Ho Ho game (similar to kaboom or bang)
  • Jolly Old Saint Nicholas - label Santa (in color and black and white)
  • Cookies for Santa Sight Word Game
  • Write the Room (8 cards)

Word Problems

We worked on addition and subtraction during summer school. I gave the students some examples of word problems and then they came up with their own problems.

Here are some of their problems:

This one is a little blurry, but I love the frogs on the log!

A lot of my students went with bunnies and for whatever reason I took the most pictures of them, guess I like bunnies, too! :) Last one of bunnies:

I zoomed in on this drawing so you could see it better. The problem was about dogs which you can see in the bottom left corner of the house, but look how much detail this picture has! If you look at the top floor of the house, there is a small lamp on top of the dresser.  In the middle of the top floor, there are tiny hangers on the clothes! There is even a washing machine on the bottom floor. My favorite has to be the tiny hangers - love them!

The next day we did subtraction word problems on the back, but I forgot to take pictures.

Ahh - I love kindergarten illustrations! So cute!
