To help with the concept, I printed out pictures of and sentences about three of the Texas symbols we are covering this week (armadillo, bluebonnet, Texas flag).
After showing a picture or reading a sentence, I called students up to put the information on the chart they thought it belonged to. Students did a great job grouping the information just like authors!

I made an Authors Group Information Pack. It doesn't include the Texas version because I don't have rights to use the clip art for TPT products, but it does include other great themed activities!
